This design provides a solution to the housing needs of all migrant construction works. Its modular & adaptable.

Its design that can change lives!

BRIEF

To design a portable - modular and sustainable living space for the migrant workers that is both economically & easily adaptable.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Living conditions of migrant workers living both on & off construction sites is abysmal and totally cramped, with noproper facilties or amenties provided.

Concept
Note

Standard panels of 1M  are used to built the walls of the house which stand on a pre-fabricated metal structure. The number of panels joined together define the size of the room and the number of people it can accommodate. Everything can be put together according to the requirements!

Any house can have any number of beds making it MODULAR in every sense. It can be a house for a family, a dorm for the labours, or an entire apartment and the builder can break apart this colony and take the entire set-up to the next location making it completely REUSEABLE!

Primary
Research

Primary research was done in a ‘labour colony’ situated in the fields of Sargasan,Gandhinagr in Gujarat, which is a home to around 150 labour families coming from Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. These labours are spilt between two on-going construction sites and work for about 11-12 hours per day. As part of the process, I also worked on a detailed research manual.
