BRIEF

Redesigning the spatial experience of an existing
heritage site (Moazzam Jahi Market) in Hyderabad to create a meaningful, sustainable, and culturally significant user experience that holds relevance in the current age.

The design narrates the structure’s cultural and historical story in a way that makes it accessible to tourists and young entrepreneurs. The project transforms the market into more than just a commercial hub by proposing it to become a vibrant public spectacle and an experience center that narrates a generational tale.

Concept

This project envisions MJ Market as a public spectacle on the rapidly growing urban cityscape of Hyderabad, making it a part of the must-visit list of sites in the city. The market is conceived to become an immersive experience centre with traditional values, where the narrative of the market’s history unfolds through its spatial design, engaging visitors in a journey through its generational evolution. Drawing inspiration from its traditional façade, the project introduces structural elements that seamlessly blend modernity with heritage, creating a space that embodies the city’s evolution, quite literally. The visitor’s journey is carefully redesigned to evoke a sense of timelessness and possibility.

Generational passages lead visitors through participatory pockets depicting the market’s past and present, while a leisurely guided stroll through the iconic clock tower offers moments of reflection and appreciation. The central atrium, a futuristic marvel, and a testament of modern development, serves as the nucleus of this experience. It serves as an invitation for visitors to envision the market’s future potential. Here, the convergence of tradition and innovation is evident, igniting imaginations and sparking conversations.
