Die-Iced is a pavilion designed for Iceland to be displayed at the Venice Biennale 2022.
Every element designed has a conceptual thought and
co-relation with the melting glaciers of Iceland. It's a tribute to the glaciers that Iceland has lost and the ones that can still be preserved.
It's design that calls for action!

Note

Ice for ages has preserved not only our cultural heritage but the very existence of our lands, quite literally. This is a space to highlight not just the formation and life cycle but also the importance and the loss of its life. The portals take you down the glorious journey of the glaciers and the scattering of the different zones represent the end of its life. We want to represent the melting of icebergs through the structure and highlight the urgency through Iceland’s perspective.

The idea is to raise awareness and make people feel the impact of their actions. With increasing global temperature more and more ice is lost every second of every day, through this pavilion we want people to know that there might be a day when they won’t have the land under their feet and it might be sooner than we think it is.

It’s later than you think & we must start accepting it!

Why 'DIE-ICED'?

Ice is dying.

The two "human I's" represent the human impact on climate change and increasing global temperature which results in melting of icebergs. The structure of our pavilion that almost looks like a dice, over the months gets diced out & scatters around to represent loss and movement of icebergs.

Hence, DIE-Iced.

DISPLACEMENT

The pavilion breaks into 5 parts over the months, each month representing loss of more & more volume, time and life of the icebergs melting in Iceland.

Its an idea representing both loss of land and of glacier. Displacement of ice
> Displacement of lands
.
PORTALS

The size of these portals are in the ratio of the volume of each glacier lost over the years.

The idea is to make people understand how much or how fast we are losing these glaciers by making them experience a portal that defines the volume of the loss.
